Blocked concrete delivery pumps
Contents |
[edit] Introduction
Concrete delivery pumps frequently experience blocked pipes. This can occur for a number of reasons.
[edit] Why blockages happen
One of the main causes of a blockage is that there is something wrong with the material. This primarily happens for three reasons related to segregation of concrete, particle size of the aggregate (particularly if it is too large) or lack of controlled delivery of materials.
Blockages can also happen if something wrong with the concrete delivery pump. This typically happens for one of two reasons: leakage of the delivery pipe or incomplete cleaning of the pipes.
Another reason for blockages can be associated with the management of materials through the concrete delivery pump; this can include speed (too fast), scheduling (intermittent delivery is poorly scheduled) or temperature (and its effect on the materials).
[edit] Prevent blockages
There are three actions that can be taken to help prevent blockages:
- Carefully select materials of the suitable size.
- Strictly control oversight of concrete delivery pump operations.
- Carefully manage the distribution of materials once pumping has begun.
